Call for nominations of new IACS co- and vice-chairs of the VIIC

The joint Volcano-Ice Interaction Commission (VIIC) of the International Associations of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS) and Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth‘s Interior (IAVCEI) is inviting nominations for new IACS representatives to serve on the VIIC board. The VIIC is charged with promoting research and interest in the complex interactions of magma and ice in all its forms (snow, firn, ice, and meltwater), i.e., glaciovolcanism, on Earth and other planets. There are exciting times ahead for the VIIC and we are actively organising conference sessions, webinars, and online- and field workshops for the upcoming year.

The roles open for nominations are the IACS co-chair and vice-chair and they will be elected for a 4 year term. Nominations should be sent to the current VIIC secretary (contact details below) before the 11th of November 2024. In the case of multiple nominations, then each officer position will be elected by a single majority vote of all votes cast by the VIIC membership. Incoming IACS representatives must be members of IACS and must be approved by the IACS bureau and VIIC advisory board.

Definition of roles:
Co-chair – responsible for overseeing progress on commission goals.
Vice-chair – responsible for identifying the coming year’s program of meetings and helping to promote and advertise those meetings.

On behalf of the VIIC leadership,
Kind regards,
Tryggvi Unnsteinsson (VIIC secretary)
